The Society – First Things First

We now know the nature of choice, questions, and the responsibility attached to each choices. Turned out every choices matter in the long run as it opens the possibilities. Recognizing both open and forced questions and also how we choose to answer to it decides whether we are entitled to the success/surprise you make.

Answering “Yes” means you agree to the relation stated by the asker in The Agreement. It is NOT about the relationship with the asker. This is where we as layperson often miss it. In this civilized world, the most dangerous ignorance are happening when people seemed to be caring. I am not saying that people are in a way being a pretender or often deceive others, it’s just that the leverage of being able to recognize when people do (pretend or deceive) culminates much better conscience as a whole and it develops a much sincere and satisfactory decisions. A decision that you can always have no regret in it.

Answering “Yes” signals the asker (usually a social institutions -your boss, government, media) to keep doing the same thing they are doing now as they are forced to take the position of maintaining status quo rather than responding and adjust into current situation. For example, if you think your boss is shitty, better to let her know now or else there will be a defined culture in your workplace where she keeps her shitty attitude towards her team. Though we all know that the matter on how she will take “that critic” is on how you tell her and also how she wants to improve further in life. This is the stake that is passive in a way and it will develop a culture. As an active observer we can do something about it and we will discuss about it in later days. For now we need to understand why it is so important in doing things right started from the first step.

First things first.

We need to base our action on social structure which has shifted from power-based agreeable state into improved-added value agreeable state. One way is to not disturb the system, the other is to have a revolution. Haha !! But in revolution you have to plan well and most of the time it is not cost effective.

Trimming Down for Quality

The core of functional society is about The Agreement and The Action that adds value… only after these two are met then it will produce result that improve or worsen the relation of social structure and subject affected. Law of attraction..? Maybe.

Based on that concept, naturally we want to make an informed decision in effective manner. This leads to a matter of quality and opportunity that costs in every decision making process.

Eisenhower Decision Matrix
Eisenhower Decision Matrix

I am sure most of us already know this especially if you are a fan of Stephen Covey and his writing of 7 Habit and 8th Habit. The logic is to first things first, and do the highest priority in aiming to have better quality of life. That means a vision where we can really say everything is between the affordable risk. Now, knowing this is not enough. The problem with knowing then is the availability to act, most of us can’t do any action without the access and being left out doing the leftover jobs. To be able to do high quality tasks, we want to ‘clean up” the 1st quadrant (urgent & important) then maintain our pace in the 2nd quadrant (Not Urgent & Important). This however need to be accompanied by what we call autonomy rather than freedom in our style of action. [More on Autonomy & Freedom] Action, action, action, decision making…

To boost our quality of information to ensure an effective decision making, first we need to shed off two deadliest behavior we are taught by the certain economic system.

1. Ignorancelack of knowledge – “you don’t want to know more”

2. Apathylack of enthusiasm – “you don’t want to do more”

As an active observer naturally we would have evolved ignorance into curiosity and apathy to proactive. [Closing The Gap, Be an Active Observer]

Ignorance is Bliss

It is true that ignorance is a bliss. It is also true that ignorance / lack of knowledge leads you to bad decision along the way. Being ignorant is much easier than being curious because it’s our nature to carry on what we used to do because it works! This influence is so dangerous both internally and externally. Dangerous internally because it nurtures the human nature of being sufficient.. It makes you vulnerable to change. Dangerous externally because it upset the balance between doing and idling -procrastination- at its best. It is also contagious! That’s why we often find a person plays in a certain group of people. You can empower them and together achieve more in most situations by being an active observer. Potato decided to remain potato..but does not necessarily apply for all of the potatoes.

“Will you be the agent of change?” is such a bad question

Apathy is Stagnation

Apathy or lack of enthusiasm commonly raging in the society where people are nurtured financially. It is encountered frequently in the kids of rich families, a commoner in a richer country (relative), or a beholder of higher degree in education. Apathy in short term reduces your chance in discovering the opportunities and the decision you can make. This naturally makes you feel remorse and made you lose confidence as you see people get over the trench and seize the day! In the long run, apathy poses more critical effect on our psychology. Since short term apathy leads to lose of confidence, long term apathy will contribute to nonparticipating, eventually cowardice. It is true that not all people will lose confidence when they nurture apathy, yet it is not exaggeration to say that our skill-set suffers depreciation. For example, a ballerina who doesn’t do ballet will lose her tact and grace and soon will be replaced by younger, more energetic ballerina.. even when they own the same dance floor.

Now let me share a bit of what I think. For me, life is an art. There is no reason to not embrace new things as it goes, especially if we can develop more of ourselves, improve our surroundings, and empower the agent of change as an active observer in our society. Being ignorant and apathetic is a privilege. It is only fair if you can afford being ignorant and being apathetic to actually practice it. That way you actually give chance for those who want to have better quality of life too. As when you are being the rich, it’s always easier to get richer. It is okay to slow down… maybe. However absurd it maybe, the practical thing I want to emphasize is the quality of life we can develop in ourselves. A fulfillment of life not many can understand, to have a life without regret. This works closely in the philosophy of “Let it be” – The Beatles, also “Let it go” – Frozen.

Let it Be or Let it Go

Thus it comes to:

  1. Where you are
  2. What you can do
  3. Why you do it

We just have to accept the truth no matter how hard it is, and see if we can do things to get the result we wanted. The tricky part is….The results that we wanted can be anything, that’s why it is very important to know what you want. After knowing what you want, how you do it is a matter of elegance, luxury, or beauty. As they said, “Much like love, life is an art”.

  1. You let things roll out the way it can be, and get along with it.. The Status Quo or…
  2. Letting things go as it doesn’t prove useful, effective, nor promising. Though sometimes, that parasite just won’t go, you have to forcefully remove it and clean it.

“Can you make an informed decision with these information, is it sufficient…?” “Is it under your influence or control…?” “What is your Principe, or ideal into travelling the distance to what you envision..?” “Can we work together..?”

The prompt of action.

Behavior is what you do, no matter what personality, character, and attitude you have. See, people always say what matters is the journey. Yeah right that is only when one failed then they talk about the journey.. I did that for you so here is the the realization: it’s nothing big to fail. You just have to embrace failure and success, celebrate the progress, and ditch the non-effective reasons in your life. Don’t let it give you any reason to stop.

Now, crime is a matter of inequality…”Will you be the agent of change?” is such a bad question, it doesn’t specify what change does it wanted…

I ask, “Regardless of how capable you are, which agent of change you want to be…? The fore-vision of harmony, or the harbinger of inequality…?”

I hope in time each of us can have the chance to ask that same question to ourselves.
